Years before the release of Nintendo Metroid dread On Switch, movie star and WWE wrestler John Cena appears to have been a big proponent of getting a new 2D entry in the series. In the past, Cena has explained that he played video games a lot when he was growing up. And while it might be hard for him to find time in his schedule to play games a lot nowadays, he seems to have been a huge fan of the latest game in the Metroid series.
According to Dan Ryckert of Giant Bomb, Cena once pressed for a new 2D Metroid game that Nintendo would make when participating in a promotional event for the Nintendo Switch back in 2017. When the Switch debuted, Cena happened to film some commercials associated with the console Which made him know he loves Metroid. Fast forward to 2021, Ryckert claims that Nintendo ended up sending a copy of the Cena Metroid dread to play in his spare time. Cena’s representatives ended up contacting Nintendo to let them know that he was very happy with the end result.
During this shoot in 2017, Cena repeatedly told Nintendo representatives how much he wanted a new 2D Metroid. When Metroid Dread came out years later, a copy of it was sent out. The Cena members sent an email saying “John loves it.” pic.twitter.com/Rjg3uh6ynv

If you were wondering how Ryckert would have known this information in the first place, he was already working for the WWE. Having recently returned to the Giant Bomb, Ryckert has been periodically sharing stories about his time with the company. Obviously, this tale is about Sina and his adoration Metroid dread It is something that may have caught his attention.
Perhaps the funny thing about Cena being such a huge fan of Metroid is that it’s more specialized compared to some of the other Nintendo franchises. Characteristics like Super Mario, Zelda, Animal Crossing, Donkey Kong, and Mario Kart tend to sell much more copies than Metroid copies. And while that doesn’t mean Metroid doesn’t have fans at all, it’s still interesting to hear that Cena’s favorite Nintendo series is one that attracts a smaller audience.
